Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Weekly Sale of Calves, OTM Cattle & Store Cattle, Friday 27th June 2025.

CALVES

Bull calves sold to £850 x2 for British Blues from JP&C Robson, Brock with others to £840 for a Charolais from T&CM Kelsall, Chipping. Younger seventeen day olds sold to £450 for a Charolais from GJ&G Billington, Garstang with first time vendor FD Riding, Wigan reaching £470 for British Blues at one month of age.
Heifer calves sold to £650 for British Blues from GH Sanderson, Catforth with other British Blues to £630 from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale. This home topped the Aberdeen Angus section at £580, with younger fortnight olds reaching £480 from FD Riding, Wigan and £430 for GJ&G Billington, Garstang.
A handful of stirks through the little ring today, selling to £900 for a Blonde bull from TD&A Gardner, Great Eccleston with a Charolais heifer to the same price from JS&KM Wilson, Kendal. This home sold a run of dairy bulls to £830, with others at £760.

CAST / OTM CATTLE

A stronger show of cows this week with more meat and weight about. Cows sold to an overall average of 260p/kg. Topping today at 344p/kg for a young Limousin cross cow from M&L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale with other better end beef cows were 270p/kg to 310p/kg and feeding types 250p/kg to 280p/kg. Top grossing being another Limousin from M&L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale at £2089. The strongest dairy cows sold to 299p/kg from AT Burrow & Son, Hornby. Other heavy well fleshed cows were 255p/kg to 280p/kg, with straight parlour type 240p/kg to 260p/kg. Top grossing totalling £2417 for a black and white from D Fox & Co, Bay Horse.
OTM heifers sold to 354p/kg and £2197 for an Aberdeen Angus cross from FI&ME Little, Kendal with dairy heifers to 334p/kg and £2033 from HJ Robinson & Son, Milnthorpe with others generally 275p/kg to 300p/kg and £1400 to £1700.
A single cull bull achieved 259p/kg and £2208 for an Aberdeen Angus from TW&BH Woodhouse & Partners, Roeburndale.

STORE CATTLE

An entry of predominantly stronger end stores this week were greeted with buyers approval, all keen to secure stock to keep sheds full. Steers sold to £2480 for a trio of Aberdeen Angus cross from JS Clark & Son, Catforth. Closely followed by others at £2450 from T Robson & Son, Singleton and J&S Winstanley, Clifton. Endless pens of stronger end native and continental sire steers were £2200 to £2350. Dairy bred steers sold to £1980 on several occasions for pens full of black and whites from EE Thornton & Sons, Heston.
Heifers sold to £2350 for British Blue cross from FI&ME Little, Kendal. Other stronger end heifers regularly £2100 to £2350, with medium feeding types £1800 to £2000.
The sale concluded with the monthly sale of stirks and young stores, with more required to fulfil buyer’s demand. 12 month old Limousin cross steers sold to £1280 from SE&J Gorst, Littledale. Blondes sold to £1120 from SJ&NS Wood, Windermere with heifers selling to £1100 for blonde cross from the same home.
Next week vendors will no longer require the EXD632 licence, as all cattle can be sold to all purchasers throughout England. A larger entry of all calves, stirks and stores cattle are expected, enter with confidence!
